Researchers from ASTRA, a research group at the Politecnico di Milano, have contributed to the success of NASA’s DART mission, the first attempt to experimentally verify the humanity capability to deflect potentially Earth-threatening asteroid by driving a space probe to crash into the celestial body.
They were in fact responsible for the delicate task of defining the trajectory of LICIACube, the small Italian-made probe that had the fundamental task of filming the impact of DART on the asteroid Dimorphos and sending the data collected back to Earth.
