Il progetto Faces Revealed si concentra sullo studio degli yellow coffins, una specifica classe di sarcofagi egizi impiegata durante la XXI dinastia (1069-945 a.C.).

Attraverso la fotogrammetria, una tecnologia semplice e a basso costo, è possibile un’analisi geometrico-morfologica dei volti dei sarcofagi. La fisiognomica e i lineamenti del viso sono elementi importanti e indicativi per l’individuazione della tipologia e la conseguente classificazione delle statue, ma solo raramente sono stati considerati, forse perché difficili da discernere al di sotto della decorazione pittorica sovrapposta.

Stefania Mainieri è Principal Investigator del progetto, coordinato da Christian Greco e Kathlyn Cooney. Il Politecnico di Milano ospita Mainieri come distaccamento del progetto per un periodo di formazione, supervisionata da Corinna Rossi e guidata da Alessandro Mandelli.

The Faces Revealed Project focuses on the study of the yellow coffins, a specific class of artefact that were used during the 21st Dynasty (1069-945 BCE ca.).

Through photogrammetry, a simple yet low-cost technology, we can make a structural analysis of the coffin faces. Facial features are important elements in understanding the typology and classification of statues, but they have rarely been considered in the analysis of Egyptian coffins, perhaps because such features are difficult to discern under the superimposed pictorial decoration.

Stefania Mainieri is the Principal Investigator of the project, coordinated by Christian Greco and Kathlyn Cooney. The Politecnico di Milano is hosting Mainieri as secondment of the project for a training period, supervised by Corinna Rossi and led by Alessandro Mandelli.
