Pranav Darda, student of the Laurea magistrale programme in Civil Engineering (Structures), was awarded at the Young Structural Engineers International Design Competition 2020, organized every three years by The Institution of Structural Engineers.

The last edition challenged the young engineers to design a sustainable habitat for coastal communities from Least Developed Countries, who face the prospect of rising sea levels due to climate change.

Pranav Darda’s project provides a bamboo raft system with a tube-in-tube mobile superstructure, suitable for local communities in Bangladesh: the portable modular units ensure a simple and low-cost construction process, which allows to adapt spaces to living and working needs. His proposal was awarded for its versatility and sustainability with the Drury Prize, reserved for participants under 25. Congratulations!
