On 31 January 2023, the new version of the ALIAS procedure at the Politecnico di Milano came into force; it is the tool that allows students undergoing gender transition to study at the university using the identity with which they identify.

The main new features include the extension of ALIAS to PhD candidates, and the option of being issued a university card that shows the chosen name only (and not the birth name). In addition, we have simplified the procedure to activate the ALIAS, which now only requires students to present psychotherapeutic evidence.

The revised procedure is the result of a collaboration within the university among different units, the Single Guarantee Committee and Student Representatives.
