Silvia Mangili, PhD student at the Department of Architecture, Built Environment and Construction Engineering, and Roberto Maino, graduated in Building Architecture, have obtained the second place at “Valutare premia”, the initiative thanks to which Consiglio regionale della Lombardia (Regional Council of Lombardy) rewards young researchers who develop postgraduate or doctoral thesis on public policies of Regione Lombardia (Lombardy Region).

Their work aims at verifying whether the healthcare structures for Alzheimer’s patients in Italy are properly designed and built to meet the needs of the patient suffering from dementia. A tool for environmental evaluation has been specifically studied and applied to three structures in Lombardy region; the results has been analyzed, identifying the critical issues. The thesis also establishes some strategies that could be implemented in any structure that shows the same issues in the relationship between built environment and patient suffering from Alzheimer’s.
